Confusion has been reigning supreme among cotton farmers across the country as private cotton companies and Cottco are fighting for the purchase of the crop leaving farmers in a catch 22 situation.
With this in mind a high powered delegation from Cottco visited Kuwirirana in Gokwe to meet farmers and assured them of the company’s commitment to buy cotton.
Cotton Producers and Marketers Association chairman, Mr Stuart Mubonderi emphasized the need for farmer to refrain from side marketing which has become rampant as some private companies are luring farmers with money.
Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator, Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena urged the cotton company officials to honour their pledge to farmers for a mutual relationship.
Most cotton farmers benefitted under the Presidential Input Scheme which has been the basis for Cottco to demand 85 percent of crop from farmers.
